NEW LISKEARD, ON — North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services (NEOFACS) has joined together again this year with the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada to participate in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Virtual Race taking place throughout the month of October.

The virtual model this year brings new opportunities to get involved. Participants have the option of running (or walking!) different distances, which include 5K, 10K (new this year!), half-marathon, or marathon. The chosen distance can be completed any time (or many times!) between now and October 31.

The NEOFACS Team Hope is part of the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada’s Team Stand Up for Kids. This granting organization works with agency partners across the country that serves children and youth. Through the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, they are able to bring partners together to raise funds in support of each organization.

As part of NEOFACS Team Hope, Resource Worker Anna Williams and Child Care Worker Amy Kirkey will be walking a half marathon in New Liskeard to raise funds for Kinship Service Families involved with NEOFACS.

Kinship Service and Kinship Care are child welfare placement options, like fostering, for the small number of children and youth who need to leave their families for safety reasons. Kinship is a living arrangement in which a relative, community member, or someone who has a connection to the child or their family can take primary responsibility to care for and raise the child.

Kinship families play an important role in keeping children and youth safe and connected to their communities. Since Kinship families do not receive the same level of financial assistance as foster families, our Resource Team makes an effort to find opportunities to fundraise annually. The money raised through this event will assist these families in caring for the child or youth by purchasing necessities such as clothing, beds, cribs, small furnishings and other goods they may need.

If you are interested in supporting this fundraising initiative or would like to learn more about the event, please contact Anna Williams by email at anna.williams@neofacs.org or visit the NEOFACS Team Hope page.
