Foster Family Appreciation Week, which takes place the third full week of October every year, raises awareness about foster care and aims to celebrate and appreciate the invaluable contributions foster parents make to the lives of children and youth in need.

Foster parents continue to work hard and put in a tireless effort caring for children. The work they do has changed during the pandemic, but they have been unwavering in their commitment to the children and youth in their care during this time.

It is not always easy, but foster parents play a crucial role in caring for our community’s children and are part of the network of supports that are here to help families who may be facing some challenges.

Foster families not only provide a safe, stable home for children and youth in need, they invite them into their family in every sense of the word. Foster families also play a fundamental role in supporting family reunification and building strong communities.

The way we celebrate may look different this year, but we still want to send the message to all of our foster parents that they are appreciated and what they do does not go unnoticed.

Thank you to all foster parents who continue to open their hearts and their homes to children and youth!
