Every October Children’s Aid Societies (CAS) across the province raise awareness about the important role that adults and communities play in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families. On Ontario Dress Purple Day, we collaborate with key partners, including boards of education, schools and child care centres, to speak up for every child and youth’s right to safety and well-being in all spaces, to celebrate the community that cares for kids, and to share the message that help is available and no one is alone.

This year, Ontario Dress Purple Day will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2019!

Ontario Dress Purple Day offers an opportunity to raise awareness among elementary, middle, and high school students about their right to safety and well-being in all spaces. Ontario Dress Purple Day offers an opportunity to remind adults about the important role they play in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families. This includes every adult’s legal duty to call their local Children’s Aid Society if they have a concern about the safety or well-being of a child or youth.

Provincial classroom prevention resources are now available online to support teachers to engage in conversations with students about their safety and well-being in all aspects of their lives and their networks of support. The Ontario Dress Purple Day Provincial Classroom Resources were developed in response to Inquest recommendations calling for age-appropriate, child-rights focused child abuse and neglect prevention materials for students.

Together, we can break the silence and keep children and youth safe in our community!

On October 24, Dress Purple and #IBREAKthesilence!
