TIMMINS - You are warmly invited to attend and participate in North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services (NEOFACS) launch of Children’s Mental Health Week, 2014 taking place at 707 Ross Avenue East, Timmins, Ontario on Monday May 5th at 9:30am.

In attendance at the launch are Board President from North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services, Mr. Garry Dent, MCYS Program Supervisor, Mrs. Kelly Wakeford, guest speaker Dr. Edward Rawana, Child & Adolescent Clinical Psychologist, Associate Professor of Psychology at Lakehead University, and Director of the Centre of Education and Research on Positive Youth Development along with foster parents, volunteers and Board of Directors members.

One in 5 kids have a mental health problem. That’s 500,000 kids in Ontario who face problems with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, psychosis and bi-polar disorders. We all need to look at children’s mental health differently. Children's Mental Health Week is about increasing awareness, decreasing stigma, and promoting understanding that help is available and treatment works.

Some highlights of the campaign this year include:

  • Green Awareness Ribbons available at all NEOFACS campus locations;
  • NEOFACS Sponsored parent training workshop, "Strength-Based Parenting Strategies to Enhance Psychological Well-Being in Children and Adolescents" with Dr. Rawana;
  • Elementary school presentations " Understanding and Managing Stress" by NEOFACS' Child and Family Intervention (CFI) Teams;
  • NEOFACS sponsored “free” community swims; and
  • "Be recognized with a NEW bike" Word Search and Colouring Challenge, sponsored by Imerys Talc.
