Summary of our Ontario Perception of Care (OPOC) Results 2019

As a part of our commitment to offering quality services to our clients, NEOFACS (as a Lead Agency for Child and Youth Mental Health) participated in a pilot study to measure clients’ experiences with mental health care. This was achieved through the use of the Ontario Perception of Care for Mental Health and Addictions (OPOC-MHA) tool. This questionnaire was anonymous and non-identifying; participation was completely voluntary and all questions were optional. Choosing not to participate did not affect the treatment or support a client received.

The OPOC-MHA was developed through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s (CAMH) Client Satisfaction/Perception of Care Project as part of the Ontario Drug Treatment Funding Program (DTFP) between 2011 and 2014. It is a validated and extensively tested questionnaire that was developed to measure client perception of care in mental health and addiction services. It is endorsed by both Accreditation Canada and the Canadian Centre for Accreditation as an instrument approved for use for assessing client satisfaction/perception of care.

We appreciate the opportunity to trial the OPOC-MHA to receive client feedback to help us improve the services we provide.

  • Clients agree that staff believe in their ability to change & grow
  • Clinicians help clients make good choices & develop positive coping skills
  • Caregivers feel involved, educated & supported
  • The environment feels safe, soothing & confidential

Our Opportunities for Growth:

  • Shorter wait times and better access to services are needed
  • Clients in the residential program want more activities to do in their free time

Next Steps:

  • The OPOC Pilot gave us a chance to try a new tool to gather client feedback
  • We will evaluate the use of the OPOC on a wider basis so that we can consistently gather quality feedback to help better inform child & youth mental health services

*This feedback is from an OPOC pilot project conducted in Timmins in February 2019. The results are based on only a small sample of clients and caregivers.
